Born in Montreal, Quebec in 1969, DRAMIS studied illustration design at l’Académie des arts, painting and sculpture at the Saidye Bronfman center for the arts. She also obtains her diploma as a cabinet maker from l’École du meuble. She holds a bachelor’s degree in fine arts (BFA) and a master’s degree in art education (MA) from Concordia University. She worked for many years as a model maker and an illustrator and in a photographic agency before dedicating herself more exclusively to painting.
DRAMIS uses live models often practising in another artistic field like contemporary dance or theater, to convey her figurative style. This collaboration allows her to pay tribute to the language of the body and to the expression of human emotions. Early twentieth century expressionism is of great influence, in her paintings, for its emphasis on signification. Therefore, the observer is called to recognize, through the image, the inner life and feelings of the persona that is being represented. DRAMIS also takes pleasure in using symbols by adding animals and objects to her compositions that can serve metaphoric purposes.
